Our Story

In 2021 I received from the Universe a strong calling to go back to Bali. I had last visited there in 1999 with a 2 year old in tow, onroute to moving to the UK to live. Ubud back then, although already a cultural and spiritual hub, was a much quieter place. We resided in the jungle and I fell in love with Bali but raising 3 daughters in London kept me from returning. Listening to the call of my heart’s desire, lead me on the most transformative and beautiful solo journey back to Ubud in December 2022, to study and deepen my yoga practise. Being held again by Mama Bali was a healing experience. On this trip I was enchanted by the many talented artisans and developed a keen affinity for the jewellery being handmade in Bali.

I met wonderful yogis musicians and artisans on that trip and it led me to conceive the idea that is TEJA JEWELLERY. To curate handmade bespoke pieces from Balinese artisans and bring them to a wider audience abroad.

Adorning oneself in carefully selected jewellery has always felt like a delicious ritual to me – A celebration of self – a way to ignite our own inner glow and highlight our individual differences. Whether it is a delicate finesse or a bold
statement piece, each piece tells a story. It is my hope that our jewellery will be treasured for a life time and become a reminder of your self expression. A cherished memory of people, places and your life’s journey.

OUR NAME

TEJA means FIRE or RADIANCE in the ancient language of Sanskrit. As a student of Tantric philosophy selecting a Sanskrit term for the collection came through.

A special ethically handmade piece to cherish and be a reminder of your own TEJA – your Inner Fire. When challenges arise in your life this piece of jewellery is a reminder of that vital power within you – the Shakti energy that makes you Radiant. Illuminates you, fosters Vitality, Charisma, and cultivates Energy.

OUR ETHICAL PROMISE

We source handmade products from local Balinese Artisans which means that each piece may differ slightly and be unique. Our pieces are designed to be worn and cherished for a lifetime. We use raw materials such as Silver and Brass. Gold plating is used in some instances and is generally 24K.

We believe wholeheartedly in the healing nature of gemstones. Our jewellery features carefully selected Precious Gem Stones and Crystals to help you cultivate qualities or celebrate your birth month.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICE

Slow Fashion – As a small Curator – we gather pieces from Artisans and keep wastage and stock to a minimum. This might result in a piece either not being immediately available or needing to be ordered. Handmade pieces are intentionally created with love and passion and may be bespoke in some instances. This requires a level of patience long forgotten in the past paced consumer focused paradigms we live in. We hope that ideologically you embrace the ethics of slow fashion in preference for excessive fast paced production models.

It is also our promise to support local communities and Balinese families through our business by acting fairly upon purchase and handing these fair prices to the consumer. We ensure a safe and respectful working environment respecting timelines and price points of our artisans.
